Derric Stowman, a half-elf cleric, was born into the service of Tyr. He trained as a temple acolyte who rose to knighthood in his early years, serving faithfully through conflicts along the eastern marches. He was a capable paladin, but not one destined for fame—his greatest strength was his steadiness, not his sword.
Once a battle-hardened Knight of Devotion and comrade to Jasper during the Second Sundering, Derric laid down his sword after the war ended. He returned to the teachings of Tyr not as a crusader, but as a servant of justice in the quiet places, guiding small communities, mending broken souls, and hearing the confessions of survivors.
Derric and Kalidus trained together at the Sanctum of the Third Light, and while Kalidus was more ambitious and severe, Derric had always admired his unwavering faith. He knew Kalidus to be a man of honor and iron conviction—too proud, perhaps, but never cruel. When news came that Kalidus had fallen from grace and broken his oaths, Derric grieved quietly.
One afternoon, Derric was called to Kalidus' prison cell where Kalidus informed him of the breach in the barrier around Varenshade and of the horror that might lie within. Putting his faith in Kalidus, yet hoping the leonin was wrong, Derric had Kalidus released into his custody. Derric then contacted his old friend, Jasper, asking if he would escort Kalidus to Varenshade to verify his claims. If what Kalidus says is true, there may be reason yet for Derric to take up arms once more.
