Kalidus Maw, a leonin paladin-turned-oathbreaker, was once a stalwart champion of Tyr. Known for his unwavering resolve and camaraderie, he stood as a beacon of strength among his fellow knights of the Amethyst Claw. However, after the chaos of the Second Sundering, his star quickly fell.

While stationed in the Eastern Heartlands of Faerûn, Kalidus and his order were tasked with hunting a monstrous horror that had been ravaging the countryside. The knights managed to track the creature to Varenshade, an old Tyr outpost, and successfully trapped it within. Kalidus, along with a handful of other templars, were assigned the task of erecting a holy barrier around Varenshade, sealing the horror inside while a select group of wardens and marshals ventured in to destroy it. They were given a single order: hold the shield, no matter who—or what—tried to leave. Seven knights entered. None returned.

After the war, Kalidus' faith withered. Grief consumed him, but worse still was the silence—his prayers to Tyr met with nothing but emptiness. Betrayed and disillusioned, he broke his oath and descended into anger, drowning his pain in drink and reckless violence. He lashed out at the world, tarnishing his name through acts of crime and destruction.

Eventually, the Knights of Holy Judgment apprehended him, sentencing him to years of imprisonment for his crimes against the citizens he had once sworn to protect. Confinement brought reflection, and over time, Kalidus found a path forward, not through knighthood, but through restitution. Enrolled in a rehabilitation program, he began working to atone for his past, though the weight of his failures never left him.

Now, a disturbance at Varenshade threatens to unravel everything. The holy barrier he helped create is failing. Something stirs within. Fearing what this might mean, Kalidus turns to a trusted friend: Derric Stowman, a fellow paladin of devotion turned cleric. Having once fought beside Kalidus, Derric listens—and believes. Together, they seek out Jasper, hoping his aid will help uncover the truth of what really happened in Varenshade all those years ago.
