In his youth, Mr. Jingles found shelter in Scardale at a poorhouse called the House of Gloam. There, a vile and scornful man named Vernin Aldrith presided as warden, inflicting brutal and humiliating punishments upon the inhabitants of the home. Over the years, Mr. Jingles was subjected to countless thrashings and inhumane conditions, resulting in his stunted and misshapen growth. After much turmoil, Mr. Jingles escaped the torture of the House of Gloam. Though many years have passed since those days, Mr. Jingles is still a prisoner to the emotional and mental trauma inflicted upon him by Vernin.

Recently, at Emmit Undercroft's request, Lady Saharel discovered the location of the horror that had escaped from Varenshade. That horror, leaching off of one lifeform to the next, had found its way to Vernin, inhabiting his body. With literal evil now coursing through his veins, Vernin's dark tendencies are being amplified. To stop this wicked terror, our heroes have no choice but to confront some harsh memories.
